STRUCTURE & PAYLOAD

SpudNik-1's structure and payload is comprised of two elements: the structure, and the payload. The structure is the physical frame that will hold all the CubeSat's components. It needs to be able to withstand large deployment forces and the harsh conditions of space, while also protecting all the sensitive equipment inside. The payload is an optical system that will be taking the satellite images of PEI. At a 400km altitude, getting high resolution images (within 2-10m) isn't as simple as just strapping a camera to the structure. The design of the optical payload requires precise placement of a variety of mirrors and sensors to detect and capture the image at an acceptable quality. Development of these two systems will continue in the 2019-2020 academic year under the Structure & Payload Phase II team.
